After Oguchi Onyewu threatened to choke Janelly Farias of Mexico, an ex-American men’s football player, Oguchi Onyewu apologized.
Onyewu said it in a humorous manner and then laughed as he said, “I’ll come across this desk, choke you” to Farias during a TV segment. Although Onyewu might have meant it in a benign manner, the comment went viral on Twitter and was widely criticized by viewers.
Onyewu later issued an apology on air to Farias
Onyewu stated, “Early in this show, you know. Throughout our banter back-and-forth, I got carriedaway for sure.” “And I said a stupid thing that should’ve never come out of my mouth.”
Onyewu stated: “And it is deeply regrettable and I apologise to you. I hope that you forgive me and won’t take offense at it.” So, I just really want to sincerely apologize for what I said.”
Farias accepted Onyewu’s apology. He said, “I believe the fact you can say that to national television speaks volumes for you.”
Onyewu was a defender with the United States National Team. He also played for clubs across Europe, such as France, Belgium and Portugal.
Onyewu serves as the current sporting director for Orlando City B.
